Jennifer Morgan's primary research interests focuses on inorganic biochemistry with a particular interest in biomedical applications of non-traditional stable metal isotope systems. She spent her childhood in rural Alaska and lived there until moving to Texas to attend Baylor University. In 2005, she graduated with a bachelor's degree in chemistry and biochemistry from Baylor. Immediately following graduation she moved to Arizona to pursue her doctoral degree. Under the advisement of Prof. Ariel Anbar at Arizona State University she received a doctoral degree in chemistry and biochemistry in 2011. Also in 2011, Jennifer applied and received a prestigious NASA post doctoral fellowship at Johnson Space Center. She accepted the fellowship and is currently working at Johnson Space Center in the Nutritional Biochemistry Laboratory under the advisement of Dr. Scott M. Smith.

As a research 1 university, ASU provided a wide range of collaborative opportunities and multi-instrument facilities. During her time at ASU Jennifer took full advantage of both opportunities. Her collaborators included researchers at Mayo Clinic and NASA as well as other departments at Arizona State University including School of Life Science and School of Earth and Space Exploration. These collaborations have also afforded her the opportunity to learn, operate, and teach on a wide variety of instruments and techniques, including cyclic voltametry, spectrophotometry and a variety of chromatography and mass spectrometry systems. This new position at NASA-Johnson Space Center is providing Jennifer with new analytical skills including HPLC, ELISA, and a variety of automated assay systems.

At NASA-Johnson Space Center, Jennifer is working on a varitety of projects including investigating the combined effects of low dose radiation and high dietary iron levels on markers of oxidative stress. This project like many in her graduate career is very collaborative and includes investigators from University of Texas, Texas A&M as well as other scientists at NASA.  Jennifer loves research, and will pursue any opportunity that challenges her to become a better scientist.
